25 ways to stick it to the man!

1) Buy only fair trade products. The money goes right back to the hand of the people who made it.
2) Try buying Soy Milk instead of real Cow's Milk. It may cost a little more, but atleast a few less cows are being raised (and creating more green house gasses!) and mistreated. Soy Milk is also betetr for you, and tatest better!
3) Try buying free range products (eggs, cheese, etc). Free range means the animals were treated fairly until they were killed or while they were used. If you can't go veggetarian, atleast promote humane ways of raising livestock!
4) Buy groceries that are organic or fair trade. They have no pesticides and their grown by people who weren't exploited.
5) Support local mom and pop businesses, especially good co-ops and free range cafe's.
6) Be active in your city, go to City Council meetings (especially if the issue matters to you) and be aware of whats going on aroud you and how it will effect you.
7) Read the newspaper. The newspaper seems to be less biast and is in better touch with the community.
8) Start a TV or radio station built by public support. Let the public voice be heard.
9) Read lots of books, support your public city library and expand your mind. The saying "Knowledge is power" is extrmely true! The more you know, the more informed of a decisison you can make.
10) What you have to say DOES matter, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. No matter how mainstream or un-mainstream your opinion is, it matters!
11) Buy clothes from the Salvation Army and Goodwill. Besides the fact that you wont be supporting a place like the Gap or the prejuduced Ambercrombie & Fitch you could be supporting a local cause...and getting awesome cheap vintage clothes! If you need something new, try buying clothes from non-sweat shop places (just ask, or do some research), or buy clothes without logos.
12) Buy biodegradable products, and remember to recycle. Use wash cloths instead of paper towels, it makes a big difference!
13) Ride your bike, or take the bus. Riding your bike is healthy and creates no pollution. Busses are far cheaper than having a car and creates far less pollution than cars can.
14) Car pool, it uses less gas and creates less traffic.
15) Adopt animals from animal shelters, instead of buying from big Animal selling chains. AKA puppy Mills that often interbreed animals with their own family in a cramped cage, and are malnutritioned. Corperate pet Shops often care less about the animal and more about the money they can get for them. Animal Shelters tend to be more knwoldegable and more compassionate, but again, do some research on your local shelter.
16) Support independent films and directors, go to film festivals. It's cheap, fun and it's important to support local artists. Don't necissarily go for the big blockbuster with Johnny Depp or Jim Carey. Support new talent!
17) Pirate music and movies.
18) Support local bands and musicians, and the local night clubs that have them.
19) Encourage people to vote, especially elderly people and people with dissabilities who it may be hard to come out and do so. Everyone's voice needs to be heard.
20) Discrouage little acts of capitalism: like restauants throwing out old edible food when theres homeless people outside. "They'll get sick and sue" is a bulltshit excuse. If that were the case than I have to sue about 10 restaurants. And I'd be rich.
21) Avoid using myspace and microsoft. Myspace is owned by FOX mogul Rupert Murdoch (anything to do what that nut is BAD!), and Linux is better than Microsoft (it can actually be shared and improved...unlike Microsoft) and is open source!
22) Sponsor an animal or a child from another country.
23) Volunteer. Tutors, animal walkers, and people for soup kitchens are needed.
24) Run a marathon. Have money go to a worthy cause.
25) Accept yourself for who you are. Don't waste money or expensive beauty care products. They try to make you feel ugly and aweful in order to sell products to you. Don't fall for it!
