Certain albums have changed me and changed the way I think. You know that euphoric feeling you experience when an album or CD is so good you forget where you are? Thats how I determine a great album. The ones listed below have peaked my imagination. Music is a big part of who I am, and I'd like to think a little part of me is in every piece of music I love. This list may seem lame to you, but these are the albums that I love. This list is albums and Cds, even though most of my favorites are on albums! At the bottum I have also listed my album collection along with a picture. If you'd like to see my CD collection click here.
Harry Nillson's "The Point"
This album is really great. It appears as though it is made for children but it's more than that. The story is about a place called "The Land of Point" in which everything is pointed. Oblio however has no point. And the album talks about Oblio's journey to find his point. This album was made into an animated movie and a Broadway show starring The Monkees.
Nine Inch Nails' "The Fragile"
This album has some powerful music! It's two discs of ALL great music. Which is hard to find. There is always one song on every album (even the ones I love) that I skip. The Fragile doesn't have any of those songs. Everything on it is wonderful. At risk of making this sound like pop; all the songs are catchy and the words are even more catchy to chant. I feel like no matter what I say I couldn't do this album justice. But it is a GREAT packed CD of quality music.
David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars"
Want to find an album that takes you away and gets you to forget where you are? Thats the power of this album. Every time I listen to it never gets old. It's always ahead of it's time even 30 years later. Ziggy Stardust is a legendary album, by one of my favorite artists.
Pink Floyd's' "The Wall"
I've always enjoyed this Pink Floyd album the most. I love Roger Waters' voice. I love to hear him scream and get into character. Every song on here is great, and it's also double disc! I like every single song on this album. Some songs even made me cry. Thats the beautiful thing about Pink Floyd, there music provokes emotion. Pink Floyd is ear candy. If for some reason you don't like Pink Floyd, give them another chance...by listening to this album.
Tears For Fears' "Raoul and the Kings of Spain"
This album is very powerful. Tears for Fears, let alone Roland Orzabar don't get enough credit. It holds a good mix of mellow and alternative music. This album is the best music I could think of for a movie because it's so moving. It makes you daydream. Not only that, it's so moving you might actually cry or get goosebumps.
The Who's "Tommy"
I am putting my foot down on this one, Tommy is THE BEST ALBUM EVER MADE. I am a HUGE fan of Tommy, and I love The Who. If you like music that tells a story music with meaning and substance, talent and genius behind your music. This is for you. This album never gets old and it continues to enchant me every single time. This album is magical, it capture time with the simplistic timeless art on the sleeves, and lyrics are so deep and some are so nicely sadistic that it just makes you go "WOW." If you just sit there and listen to this album, you can picture so many things, the story is easy to follow and the tunes kick serious ass. At the end of this album you will walk away a new person.
Jefferson Airplane's "After bathing at Baxter's"
Really good album! Especially "Two heads." It's mellow and has rock, really great singing. Awesome lyrics. Some of the songs on this album were also performed at 1969's Woodstock.
Nine Inch Nails' "With teeth"
Is it just me or does every album they release just get better and better? The album has the elements I really look for. It's got a variety of feels, some of it is slow and deep, some is fast and hard (in the same way The Sex Pistols are, NIN makes me want to dye my hair black and start a mosh pit). If a classic rock buff like me can enjoy this, you definetly can. The thing I love about NIN is that the message they convey I can see if from their point of view but I don't necissarily understand what it means. Even though this music is industrial, it has a very rock feel to it. This CD is definetly worth your time, money, or piracy.
Queen's "A night at the opera"
My all time favorite Queen album. This was actually the first Queen album I ever bought. Every track on it is fucking amaizing. And the truely incredible part is that it was all done without sythisizers! This album has "Bohemian Rhapsody" on it. Some of my favroite songs: The Prophet's song (will certainly give you goosebumps), 39 (beautiful), I'm in love with my car, Death on two legs, etc. I defintely reccomend this album. No music collection is complete without this!
Neil Diamond's "12 songs"
A lot of critics have said this may be Neil Diamond's best album. I thought that was a pretty far stretch, so I bought it. Gotta say...I agree! This album is great. It's primarily light rock but it's really good. The lyrics are really what makes this album so special. Neil Diamond is one hell of a song writer, more a poet. This album proves it. Hell yea is the best song on the album, but my other favorites; Captain of a shipwreck, Evermore, I'm on to you, and Delirious love are Emmy worthy. Even if your not particularly a Neil Diamond fan I bet you'll love this album!
David Bowie's "Low"
WOW! This album is great! No wonder so many kick ass artists credit this album for being one of their all time favorites. I bought this album on a whim, always wanting it. I had no idea it would be this good. I should have known Bowie=ALWAYS GREAT! This album is pretty edgy, creative, the lyrics are killer. Always crashing in the same car is my favorite. Although Sound and Vision is also great, Speed of light, Be my wife. It's all good! Every album on this page has something in common, every fucking song on the album rocks, that to me is what makes a great album. David uses alot of electronic sounds in this, but it is by no means irritating (even if eletronic music isn't your thing). Theres a fair mount of instrumentals on this too which I normally don't like. But as usual, Bowie delivers! I highly reccomend this album. Side note: The Best of Bowie DVD menu music is on here, if you've ever been looking for where it could be!
The Beatles' "White Album"
There are no words for how awesome this album is. From Back in the USSR all the way to Goodnight I am starstruck every time. Although some songs on this album are bizzare and creepy, I love all of it. It is so incredibly unique. Dear Prudence is once of my favorites. Revolution 9 is on this as well (number nine...number nine) and thats a must hear! If you a rock and roll fan and especially if your a Beatles fan...this album is PIVOTAL.
Pink Floyd's "Darkside of the moon"
It took me a long time to come around to Pink Floyd. I popped in a copy of Darkside in my CD player on a train ride to San Jose. The whole album is captivating. There were times I felt at a loss of breath. Time is a beautiful song, The great gig in the sky, Eclipse, and even the classics found on this album...Money and Brain damage. I consider myself much more of a Roger Waters-Pink Floyd fan than a Syd Barrett-Pink Floyd fan. I'm actually at a loss as to how to describe how awesome this album is. Just do your brain a favor and listen to this album.
The Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour"
This is one of my favorite Beatles albums. Magical Mystery Tour holds my favorite Beatles song "I am the Walrus." This album has a good mix of stuff on it, and I love the album cover. I like this album so much because it's creepy.
